Garford and Mason share the spoils with a podium a piece

The Wera Alliance Racing duo headed to Brands Hatch at the weekend for round 2 of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship.

Garford came into the round with a brace of podiums at the season opener, and Mason had been knocking at the podium door as well. So both drivers had very high expectations for the weekend. Friday saw the duo setting competitive times in testing, and went into Qualy on Saturday Morning confident to put the cars up the front.

Mason initially put it on pole position but had a lap time disallowed and finished 9th, conserving his tyres for the race.

Garford had a nightmare with the car coming to a halt on the out lap and so would start last with no time set.

The pair got great starts in race 1 gaining places on lap one, Mason fought well through a tough pack of drivers to climb to 6th by the end. A very similar story for Garford, starting 22nd he also carved through the field to finish in 10th place.

Race 2 on the Sunday morning was status quo, Jenson stormed through from his 6th place grid start setting fast laps and brave moves to get on to the podium in 3rd place to the cheers of the fans in the stands! To complement Jensons superb result, Alfie had set the fastest lap of the race coming through from 10th to 6th.

A jubilant team with the first trophy of the weekend lined up for race 3 with great car setups and drivers up for battle at the sharp end. Mason was first on the attack, pressuring the leading pair! His pace was good and it was only a matter of time before his chance would come. Garford on the other hand had stayed in 6thfor the opening laps, before dropping the hammer at the half way point. From then on he was on a mission, and slowly but surely found himself on the bumper of his teammate.

With the fight on between 2nd, 3rd and 4th it had allowed 1st place to stretch out a comfortable lead, and although the duo fought hard they couldn’t make a move stick and crossed the line with Garford 3rd and Mason 4th. And probably the most successful team on the grid!

After the race Alfie said ‘We drove hard and fast all weekend, if only we hadn’t had the qualy gremlin, I’m sure we would have fought for the win. The teams great and Jenson and I have given them back a couple of great podiums. Jenson grabbed a good point’s haul this weekend as well.

Jenson commented after race 2 ‘I got a great start and was able to take a position round the outside of turn 1, the car wasn’t great towards the end but we know what to do to get it fast again for race 3. Alfie and I have been studying the data together and its making us both stronger in our races.

Pete Osborne of Alliance Racing commented after the weekend – The boys have done amazing, Jenson has scored great points for the championship along with his podium place and is probably sitting 4th. Alfie did an amazing damage limitation to salvage a podium from 22nd in qualy. It shows just why we have our Wera Alliance Academy. The boys are improving all the time, it’s great to see!
