Loughborough College

Project Background:

The Wera-backed Honda Civic rallycross car started life as a year-long project for the Loughborough College Level 3 BTEC Motorsport learners in 2018. The students were tasked with building a race vehicle to a given specification. The learners had to manage all aspects of the project starting with the purchase of the car at auction. They then had to manage the whole build process including budget, ordering parts, working with suppliers, and securing the vehicle competition logbook from Motorsport UK.

A team of four learners saw the entire process through from the beginning and transformed it from road car to race car. The work was completed in 30 days and the vehicle was ready for Loughborough College Lecturer and four-time BTRDA Rallycross Champion, Gary Cook, to race before the end of the 2018 season.

Since then, the car has been maintained by the students at Loughborough College and has gone on to achieve back-to-back BTRDA Clubman’s Championships at the hands of fellow Lecturer, Alex Fletcher.
